You ‘never’ let them ‘know’ their history.

The 7th Cavalry got their butts in a sling again after Little Big Horn, fourteen years later, the day after the Wounded Knee Massacre. If it wasn’t for the 9th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers, there would of been a second massacre of the 7th Cavalry. Read, and visit site/great history, rescueatpineridge.com

It was very sentimental and slightly OTT. I think Spike Lee cleverly used the box office platform given to him by the unexpected worldwide success of ‘Inside Man’ so that he could get the finance he needed to make what was a much more personal project. Like you say, it does underline the impressive genre range Lee has acquired over the years and I do think it is unconventional in temrs of genre purely because here is a war film seen through the perspective of black soldiers. That itself is somewhat of a rarity in mainstream cinema. Equally like his best work, it is a fascinating watch in terms of the subversive ideological content on display. I hope this does get a UK cinema release.
