RIP Pete Postlethwaite (1946-2011)

Pete Postlethwaite as the bandleader in Brassed Off

Pete Postlethwaite is a sad loss to global film.

I’m pleased for him that he achieved an international profile through his work in Hollywood and it’s probably a bit selfish of me perhaps, but I prefer to remember him in British films like Brassed Off (1996) and Among Giants (1998) and most of all as the Dad in Terence Davies’ Distant Voices, Still Lives (1988) – one of the most riveting performances I’ve ever seen. Here’s an extract from one of the best films of the last 30 years:

  1. A fantastic actor who will be missed a great deal; a big loss to British cinema.

  2. I was stalling on twitter trying to find something to cure my boredom – and POW – somebody I follow tweeted this post. Now, I am not quite as bored. Thanks for posting great material. – Frisbee
